I need more micromanagement of my life not less!

Is there ever going to be any end to the stupidity? Or am I just going to have to endure it? Up to this point, I've always thought that Nu Labour's ridiculous social engineering experiments would eventually be rejected by the lumpen proletariat, just like Maggie's Poll Tax.

Where is the street rioting? Do we really support Gordon "Dour  Incompetent Scottish Cunt" Brown that much?

Where will it end?

I need somewhere to emigrate to where this sort of shit does not go unchallenged! France perhaps?

Think it's a general trend by jump the ladder (3.00 / 2) #1 Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 02:41:32 AM EST
In most Western Countries as the European wide smoking ban would indicate. Govts have decided they can't protect your economic security so they're casting around for other roles to justify their existence and keep the bureucracy going. Plus they save money on healthcarte costs ion the long term.

France might be better on stuff like this but it's a bureaucratic nightmare in lots of other respects and even more statist. Spain is better and is the only EU country I woulkd consider setttling in.

projections indicate that by 2020 (or earlier) we'll have over a million people in the UK suffering from dementia (insert joke about them all working in government). Many of those will require very expensive nursing care. Now, if those people had died from lung cancer, cirrhosis, heart attacks, traffic accidents etc. then it would save a shedload of money.

As it is, by mid century, half of the tax take will be being spent on nurses to wipe up dribble and Werther's Originals.

Although I think the health benefits of making it slightly more inconvenient to drown one's chips in salt may be overestimated...

There evidence that low-salt diets help people with high blood pressure is weak and that the evidence is that normal amounts of salt have no negative effects on people without high blood pressure.

It gets real old explaining to people that salt doesn't cause high blood pressure. "But sodium is bad for you!"

Well, no, it's not.

Has anybody seen my clue? I know I had it when I came in here.

Yep, sodium is bad for you. by ambrosen (4.00 / 1) #6 Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 01:50:25 PM EST
How many people can correctly answer the question "Which is the most important metal to have a sufficient amount of every single day?"?

Well, don't have any calcium or iron for a week, and you're fine. Try that with sodium.

Chippy salt shakers pour way too fast by gpig (4.00 / 1) #8 Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 05:03:24 PM EST
if you only like a little bit of salt on your chips (as I do).

So they're doing the right thing for me, but for the wrong reason ....

As far as 'too much salt' goes, how much does that matter exactly if you're about to eat a chippy?

A misconception about the public's ability to apply an appropriate amount of salt to their chips.

I think we need a programme of education, and local 'community salt wardens' to empower us to implement a healthy salt/chip solution.

Oh yes, and fixed-penalty on-the-spot fines for anyone who has "too much"* salt on their chips.

*(Amount to be decided by panel of govt-appointed "experts").

They just protest about stuff they care about, hence the size of the Stop the War marches.
