The nice thing about a largely dry autumn are the piles of crunchy leaves you can kick through while walking.

This is something that pleases me out of proportion to the simplicity of the act. It has also lead me in the past to put my foot through the putrid corpse of a concealed ex-pigeon. The risk of that is almost nil here. In fact, finding sufficient leaves to crunch and swish through can be a problem as things are cleaned so quickly. I have seen men gathered around trees holding a net underneath and shaking the tree so that it is not necessary for the leaves to even reach the ground. Nonetheless, with the right timing, it can be done and it a very pleasant way to pass a lunch break.

I suppose hypothetically, if it didn't rain in autumn leaves might indeed be crunchy rather than soggy. But can such a thing really happen?
